Scars/Deformities Small scars covering her whole body, with an emphasis on her face. She also has a set of long scars caused by claws running down her left side. Appearance Niara for the most part looks like your everyday African lioness. She stands about three and a half feet at the shoulder. When she’s healthy and well fed, she weighs about three hundred and seventy pounds. However, due to recent events in her life, she is severally underweight allowing her skeletal joints to be seen even under her pelt. Niara’s fur is a mixture of tans, browns and creams that allow her to blend into the grass of her native savannah home. Her body is a pure, honey colored tan, fading as it gets closer to the back side of her legs and her underbelly. Along her legs there is some light spotting, almost like a cheetahs spots. These are more prominent on her hind legs, while her front legs sport almost none of this decoration. A faint dark brown stripe runs along her spine and down her tail, which is tipped in thick hair in a darker shade. Due to malnourishment, her coat has taken on a shaggy, dull look instead of it’s normal sleek sheen. Small scars cover Niara’s body, making first impressions of her somewhat intimidating. Around her small golden eyes, the scars are more frequent as if someone tried to slash them out…or at least wanted her to think so. Down her left side reaching from the tougher hide of her shoulder down to the soft, sensitive skin of her stomach is a set of claw marks clearly put there fairly recently by someone much larger than herself. ♫ and only in the center can we begin to repair ♪ Preferences Likes;; solitude. singing. hunting. sarcasm. young cubs. control. She’s moody and prone to violent mood swings, especially when annoyed. Never one to try to please anyone but herself, Niara has always been surrounded by so much family that having friends has never really been needed. She isn’t very trusting, and if she doesn’t like someone within three minutes of meeting them, it isn’t likely to happen. More than anything, she likes to be left alone. Niara also can have a very nurturing side that is part of her very nature. She can’t help but fall in love with any youngster, whether they’re her own kind or not. If someone comes to her in need of help, she’ll do her best to do anything she can. Slavery doesn’t agree with Niara, who is a queen in her own right, in her own land. Secret Ambitions Escaping slavery to return to her homeland, kill Nyebohi, and be with her remaining family. History Niara was born on the plains, far away from the village of Dolce. She loved her mother and father, and usually adored her brother and sister too. They grew to adulthood, and Niara became a beautiful hunter and singer. She was content with her life, but something seemed to be missing. One day, an adult rogue male named Kuzimu came and took her away from her home. At first she was distraught, but he was kind to her and made her his queen. She grew to love him, and eventually her sister, Sahani, came to join their pride. Before too long, Niara had her first litter of cubs, three energetic little lionesses. The family prospered, and Niara was the happiest she’d ever been. But they had enemies too. Other males were jealous of Kuzimu and his beautiful queen and her family. Kuzimu was able to fight them off, with help from Niara, Sahani and the cubs. Their luck didn’t hold. One day while the lionesses were out hunting, Kuzimu was killed. When they returned, they found a lion who introduced himself as Nyeboni and claimed that he had come upon Kuzimu already deceased and was there to help them. Niara wasn’t stupid. She could see that her mate’s blood was on his claws, but she kept quiet. Her second litter was growing in her belly, and she didn’t want him to take it out on the innocent cubs. Nyeboni was cruel to his new pride, but he abused Niara the most. No food she brought to him was ever good enough, no song she sang pretty enough, and the cubs she gave birth to weren’t his. He allowed her to think they were safe, and then killed the two males just as they were almost weaned. In a rage, Niara attacked him and Sahani ran to assist her. Her first three daughters, now grown, were too terrified to help them. Nyeboni swatted Sahani aside before raking his claws down Niara’s side. She blacked out from the pain and blood loss. When she awoke, Nyeboni was dragging her away from her home. He told her that he was taking her to a village called Dolce, where she would be sold as a slave. ♫ it's a wind-torn world we live with the leaves of shattered glass and the sky with burnished blood and all the promises here are made to be broken ♪ |
